Through great attention to detail, Todd Sommers demonstrates his versatility and success as a professional trainer in both reining and western pleasure industries. Early in his career, Sommers was hungry to learn all he could from top professional trainers. When he was full in 1998, he went out on his own. Developing his own consistent training program, Sommers is one of the top money earners in the business. In 1991, Sommers put his skills to the test coming out on top winning the NRHA Open Futurity Championship, and the NRHA Limited Open Futurity Champion. In 2000, Sommers claimed the NRHA Open Futurity Champion again, and his success paid off naming him 2000’s NRHA's top money earning rider. In 2001, Sommers displayed his diversity becoming a finalist in the NRHA Derby and testing his skills in western pleasure. Sommers' talent did not fail him, and he became the Jr. Western Pleasure World Champion, and the APHA 2-year-old Western Pleasure World Champion. Sommers' success in western pleasure flourished as he acquired another APHA World Champion title in 2 Year Old Western Pleasure in 2002, and winning the Appaloosa World Champion Junior Western Pleasure in 2004 and 2005.
During his professional journey, Sommers has had the opportunity to train and show many outstanding horses. His success with these horses is evident in his lifetime earnings of over $836,000 in the NRHA riding. Sommers does not restrict himself to reining, which is obvious when looking at his list of accomplishments. Lately, Sommers has been competing in USET events and he has made his skills profitable in pleasure horse events winning more than $180,000 in NSBA earnings. Sommers and his wife, Kelly, live in Texas where together they own and operate their own ranch specializing in reining and western pleasure. Don’t miss this Cinch trainer as he looks forward to another year of intense competition.
