NATIONAL REINED COW HORSE ASSOCIATION

The National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) has a unique history of the working horse that extends back hundreds of years. Today’s reined cow horses are trained through virtually unaltered, original training methods. The traditional vaquero (cowboy) training program includes numerous phases spanning over many years. When the horse has completed these phases it is capable of performing standard maneuvers required on ranches, round-ups and cattle drives. The NRCHA tests the horses’ cow working ability through three events: herd work, rein work and cow work. The horses’ performances and athletic prowess are astonishing to see. These finely bred animals are a part of the California heritage, and they bring pride and pleasure to both participants and spectators.
