Dean Tuftin is a real rodeo cowboy who is equally talented as a country singer. Tuftin, born and raised in Drayton Valley, Alberta, now makes his home in Prineville, Oregon. Dean grew up in the rodeo industry; his mother was a barrel racer, his father a team roper and his brother a Canadian bullfighter. Tuftin attributes much of his success to the lessons he learned when he was young stating, “It is very important for people to understand that horsemanship and fundamentals are key in this business. You have to know how to make a good horse to keep winning.”
Dean is a true champion in the rodeo world having collected the Canadian Team Roping Championship twice. In 1995, Tuftin joined the PRCA and since joining has won some of the circuit’s most prestigious rodeos like the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo and the San Antonio Rodeo. In 2003, he won the United States Team Roping Championships US Open Tour and is now featured as one of the top heelers in the sport. Currently roping with Speed Williams and ranked high in the world standings, he is well on his way to his first gold buckle.
When he’s not roping Dean spends time fine tuning his guitar and his voice. He’s currently working on another album which he expects to release when he has more time on his hands. The accomplished musician already has been nominated for four Canadian country music awards, has had a number one hit in 2004 with “Wide Open Highway” and released several top ten Canadian music videos.
Dean also is a family man and enjoys time with his wife, Leslie and two daughters Maysa (4) and Maggie (2). In his spare time he enjoys golfing and hunting.
