Tie-down roper Fred Whitfield came out firing winning the 1991 NFR tie-down roping aggregate title only one year after his career in the PRCA began. In 1997, he delivered another clutch performance setting the NFR tie-down roping average record with 84.0 seconds on 10 head, and in 1999 he won the NFR tie-down roping aggregate title again. With his natural progression, by 2002, he was a World Champion, NFR aggregate champion, and the regular season earnings leader with $151,856. Before acquiring his eighth overall world title, Whitfield was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2004. That same year he finished third in the world standings with $158,000. Whitfield conquered his eighth overall world title with an outstanding performance in 2005, and seized his seventh tie-down roping title at the NFR after his placing in a total five rounds.
Whitfield’s winnings are not the only things making him stand out, his signature move called, “raise the roof,” has become a part of his performance. This signature has caught on with his fans and he continues to engage them not only with his skill of tie-down roping, but also with his entertaining performance. His wife, Cassie, and daughters, Savannah and Sydney, also engage in a performance themselves, when they refer to Whitfield as “Moon,” a nickname given to him by his grandfather. The rodeo is not the only sport Whitfield likes; he also enjoys watching the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings. Still, while other sports are intriguing, you will never see such an action packed performance as you will get from this Cinch tie-down roper. So you better watch out!
